Bucketshop Chronicles

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bucketshop Chronicles?

A rules-based market research platform for self-directed growth traders. It publishes market breadth, trend states, Darvas boxes, and ratings for stocks and industry groups, computed the same way every session from published market data. It is for education and research only and is not investment advice.

Where does the data come from, and when does it update?

Market prices come from Tiingo, company filings from SEC EDGAR, and economic data from FRED.

Ratings, states and lists are published each evening, once the day’s end-of-day data is complete. Coming soon: prices that update as often as once a minute during the trading session, and a provisional set of ratings, states and lists after the 4:00 PM ET close, marked “Provisional”, which the evening’s final set replaces.

What do the ratings mean?

Each rating, state and list is computed by a fixed rule, mostly from price and volume history. The Composite Rating also includes fundamentals: the Fundamental Rating, from company filings. The Methodology page explains each one. It is open to signed-in subscribers.

How do I get an account, and how do I sign in?

Access is by invitation during beta. There is no sign-up form; an invited email address can sign in.

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. You can also set a password, and turn on two-step sign-in with an authenticator app. An account can be signed in on two devices at once, one phone and one other device; signing in on a third signs out the oldest.

What does it cost, and how do I cancel?

The Bucketshop is $50 a month, or $500 a year when you pay annually.

Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. If the price changes, we will email you before it applies to your next renewal.

You can cancel at any time from the Account page. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for, and you are not billed again. All sales are final: there are no refunds or credits for a partial month or year.

Is there a phone app?

iPhone and Android apps are planned. They sign in with your website account, show the same pages, and receive push notifications for your alerts. Nothing is sold inside either app.

How are alerts delivered?

Every alert appears on the site, under the bell and on the Alerts page. You can also choose desktop push for each alert, with defaults for each kind of alert on your Account page. Email and phone push are coming.

Why didn’t a push notification arrive?

Push needs two permissions: this site’s, which you give when you turn Push on, and your computer’s, for your browser. On a Mac, open System Settings → Notifications and allow your browser. On Windows, open Settings → System → Notifications. Safari shows its own icon on its notifications instead of the Bucketshop logo.
